Discussion of Internship Plan
Dr. Pedro Galaviz and I discussed my comprehensive
internship plan via a conference call on July 6th. We initially discussed the
Lamar program in general, and then talked in more detail about the requirements
of the internship. I explained the
format of the plan that covers the 38 skill areas found in our text correlated
to the 10 Superintendent competencies. Dr. Galaviz pointed out my fortunate situation in that the
activities outlined in my internship plan will be a part of my real work over
the next several months. As we discussed
the activities, he felt they all aligned and would be an integral part of my
current work. We talked about the new
leadership in our district (a new Deputy Superintendent, new Assistant Superintendent
for Secondary, and me as the new Assistant Superintendent for Elementary), and
that I may want to ask our new Deputy Superintendent to be my site supervisor or an additional site supervisor for this course when she begins later in July.
He expressed his willingness to continue in this role as well. He also encouraged me to consider applying
for a doctoral program.
Dr. Galaviz encouraged me to be thinking about real issues
that arise throughout the next several months related to transportation and
food services and to modify my plan as I go to reflect those real
situations. For now, the activities I
have listed would serve me well, but there may be an opportunity for real “on
the job” experiences to be part of my internship.
